Bioloid is a comprehensive robot kit which can be constructed into any form required by users, similar to freeform modular kits (eg. LEGO).
General modular kits are a flexible combination structure consisiting of individual blocks. However, it is possible for Bioloid to move its joints by utilizing movable blocks - smart blocks with built-in motors. The term "Bioloid" is a composite word "Bio" + "all" + "oid" - meaning, that the resulting robot can take the form of almost any lifeform. The following are examples of robots made with Bioloid. Different shapes of robots, other than the ones shown in the picture below, is also possible to be made a reality.

Bioloid can be programmed to move automatically through various input, which is collected by the Distance Sensor, the Sound Sensor and Joints Sensor. For example, it is possible to make a puppy stand up when a clap is detected and sit down when two claps are detected, or to greet people when they are approaching. It also is possible to make a robot that avoids running into objects or a robot that plays with a ball and to control a robot with a remote control, or via buttons on the robot. By using software provided with the robot, the user - without any professional knowledge of robotics can easily program the robots movements.
